Philosophy

We believe young children learn through play — not through worksheets, screens, or being hurried along. A toddler pouring water back and forth between two cups is doing real work: testing, predicting, trying again. Our job is to give them safe, interesting things to do and the time to do them properly.

We also believe the first years are mostly about relationships. Before a child can learn letters or numbers, they need to feel secure — to know that when they're upset, someone comes; that the day has a rhythm they can count on; that the adults around them are patient. That's the foundation everything else is built on, and it's the thing a small home program can do better than almost anyone.

So our days are unhurried. We follow each child's own pace for eating, sleeping and playing. We narrate, we sing, we read the same book for the fifth time. We let children try things themselves even when it takes longer and makes more mess. And we treat big feelings as something to be helped with, not corrected.

Health & Safety

  • Fenced outdoor play area, checked before every use

  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguisher, and posted evacuation plan

  • Monthly safety walk-throughs and regular emergency drills

Our caregivers

  • Background-checked and cleared through Washington State requirements

  • Current in pediatric CPR, First Aid, bloodborne pathogens and HIV/AIDS training

Daily health practices

  • Handwashing at arrival, before meals, after diapering and toileting, and after outdoor play

  • Toys, surfaces and eating areas cleaned and sanitized daily

  • Safe sleep practices for infants — on the back, on a firm surface, in their own crib, with nothing else in it

  • Clear illness policy so sick children stay home and others stay well

  • Written records for allergies, medical needs and medication — nothing given without your written authorization

  • Sign-in and sign-out required, and children released only to adults you've authorized in advance

If something happens

  • Emergency contacts and medical authorizations on file for every child

  • You're contacted immediately for any injury beyond a minor scrape, and all incidents are documented in writing

  • Emergency and evacuation plans reviewed and practiced regularly
